Tesla Wall Connector Installation in Chula Vista
In Chula Vista, your panel decides how fast your Tesla charges at home. East of the 805, in Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rancho del Rey, a 200A panel usually has room for a 60-amp circuit and the Wall Connector's full 48 amps. West of the freeway, on older 100A service, the load calculation often points to a lower setting, and that costs less range per hour than most owners expect. Either way, you get the number and a fixed price before we start.

Matching the Wall Connector to a Chula Vista panel
East of the 805: the full 48 amps
Tesla rates the Wall Connector at 48 amps on a 60-amp breaker, which adds about 44 miles of range an hour to a Model 3 or Model Y that can accept it. In the newer tracts of Eastlake and Otay Ranch the panel tends to sit in or beside the attached garage, so the circuit is short and the setting is the maximum. A household with two Teslas doesn't need two large circuits: with Tesla's Group Power Management, up to six Gen 3 Wall Connectors can share one circuit and split the power between the cars that are plugged in.
West of the 805: a lower setting that loses little
On 100-amp service, the load calculation often allows a 40-amp circuit with the Wall Connector set to 32 amps. That still adds about 30 miles of range an hour, so a typical day's driving comes back in an hour or two overnight. Some cars lose nothing at all: Tesla lists the Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive at a 32-amp maximum, so a bigger circuit wouldn't charge them any faster. If the panel can't spare even that, a load-management device lets the charger share capacity instead of replacing the service.
What Chula Vista asks for
For a house, duplex or townhome, Chula Vista's Development Services Department asks for a building permit application and the city's Utility Permit Application, Form 4569, with "Miscellaneous wiring/conduit" checked in the electrical section. The plan sets and EV checklist on the city's permit page are for apartments and commercial sites, not single-family homes. We fill in and file the forms and meet the inspector.

Frequently asked questions
Will a Tesla Wall Connector work on a 100-amp panel in west Chula Vista?
Usually, yes. The Wall Connector can be set to match a smaller circuit. A 40-amp circuit at 32 amps adds about 30 miles of range an hour, and a 30-amp circuit at 24 amps adds about 22. The load calculation shows which one your service can carry, or whether a load-management device is the better choice.
Can two Teslas share one charger circuit?
Yes. Tesla's Group Power Management lets up to six Gen 3 Wall Connectors share a single circuit. The units coordinate wirelessly and divide the power between the cars plugged in, so a two-Tesla garage in Otay Ranch or Eastlake doesn't need a second large breaker.
What paperwork does Chula Vista need for a home EV charger?
A building permit application and the city's Utility Permit Application, Form 4569, with miscellaneous wiring checked. Single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes don't use the plan-set checklist the city requires for multifamily and commercial chargers. Development Services answers questions at 619-476-2332.
