What changes about an install in San Diego
The housing stock
The city spans nearly every housing era in the county, from 1920s Craftsman bungalows in North Park with 100A service to 2015-and-newer Carmel Valley homes pre-wired for 240V.
Permits and inspection
A 240V circuit needs an electrical permit. In San Diego that goes through the City of San Diego Development Services Department. We file it, book the inspection and meet the inspector, so you do not have to take a second day off work. Unpermitted 240V work tends to surface during escrow, and it is cheaper to do it right than to unwind it later.
San Diego runs EV charger permits through its online DSD portal, and a straightforward residential Level 2 install is usually issued over the counter rather than going into plan check.
How the permit works, step by step
Will your panel take it?
Before quoting we run a load calculation against your existing service. Three outcomes: there is room and we land a dedicated circuit; there is no room and a load-management device lets the charger share capacity for a few thousand less than a service upgrade; or the service genuinely needs replacing. You find out which before you commit, not on install day.
How the job runs in San Diego
-
Send us a photo or video of your panel
Show us the panel with the door open and where the car parks. That is usually enough to get started in San Diego.
-
We run the load calculation
We check whether your service has room for the charger circuit and identify the safest, most cost-effective setup.
-
We provide a fixed estimate
You receive one clear number covering the permit, materials, installation and inspection visit.
-
We pull the permit
We file with the jurisdiction that covers your address and handle the permit process and scheduling.
-
Our team installs your charger
Our in-house team mounts the unit, runs the circuit, connects it to the panel and tests it at full amperage.
-
City inspection
We coordinate the final inspection and meet the inspector, so your installation is signed off properly.
