Step by step in Coronado
Use the expedited checklist
Coronado's code points to the latest Plug-In Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Permitting Checklist from the state's Zero-Emission Vehicles in California guidebook, unless the city has adopted its own.
Confirm the house can take it
Before applying, the code asks the applicant to verify the installation won't harm public health and safety: electrical capacity and loads, wiring, bonding and overcurrent protection.
Fill in the construction permit application
Use the Electrical section of the city's Construction Permit Application. A permit can't be issued until the contractor's required workers' compensation insurance is verified.
Submit it
Applications and fees can go in person, by mail or electronically, and the Building Division's address is BUILDINGPERMITS@coronado.ca.us. Electronic signatures are accepted.
Review and issue
A complete application gets administrative, nondiscretionary review. If something is missing, the city sends one written notice listing every deficiency. The building official then issues the permit.
Install, inspect, then energize
Call the inspection line at 619-522-7361. Requests made before 4 p.m. on a business day are scheduled for the next business day. The charger can't be energized until the permit is finaled.
Let us handle the permit
Our C-10 licensed, in-house team files the permit, books the inspection and meets the inspector, and the permit is part of the fixed price. Read about EV charger installation in Coronado.
