Step by step in Unincorporated San Diego County
Confirm the address is unincorporated
If the address is inside one of the 18 cities, that city issues the permit instead. The County covers everywhere else.
Apply in the Citizen Access Portal
Choose PDS Apply for Record, then Building (Residential Alteration), then 8013 – Residential EV Charge Station. The County's PDS 808 checklist covers the process.
Pay and receive the permit
Pay the fee online. Home charger applications are issued as instant, same-day permits.
Install the charger
The County requires the installation to be done by a certified, licensed electrician.
Schedule the inspection
Book it in the same portal after the work is done. The charger has to pass inspection before it is used.
