Step by step in Encinitas
Register for a CSS account
All Encinitas submittals are electronic, through the Customer Self Service portal.
Prepare the plan set
A title page, the charger maker's installation details and specifications, and electrical service load calculations, stamped and signed by a C-10 contractor or a California electrical engineer. Size the branch circuit at 125 percent of the charger's continuous load.
Add what the location requires
A site plan isn't required for a Level 2 charger inside an existing one- or two-family house or garage. If the charger is in a residential building, show the smoke and carbon monoxide alarm locations.
Submit the application and BLD-119
Upload the building permit application, the plan set and the completed checklist. Explain any checklist item you can't meet.
Review
The Building Department reviews it; Planning, Engineering and Fire usually don't. Expedited applications have a processing goal of 1 to 3 business days.
Install and inspect
Schedule the inspection in the CSS portal, give the inspector the approved plans and access, and get final approval before using the charger.
