How to permit a home EV charger in National City

Prepare the documents
The city's EV bulletin lists a site plan with the panel and charger locations, a service load calculation, the charger's cut sheet with installation instructions and listing, and a single-line drawing with conduit and wire sizes.
Add an SDG&E work order if the panel changes
If the service panel is being upgraded, include the work order from SDG&E.
Email the plans and pay at submittal
The Building Division accepts plans by email as PDF files of 10 MB or less. A $15 permit filing fee and the plan fee are due when plans are submitted.
Book the inspection online
Create an account in the city's inspection system and request it at least 24 hours ahead. Inspections run Monday to Thursday in approximate windows of 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
