How to permit a home EV charger in Escondido
Escondido's EV charger checklist asks for a site or floor plan, load information and the maker's instructions. Trade permits go through the Escondido Portal, plans are accepted only in electronic form, and inspections are booked there too.

Step by step in Escondido
Complete the expedited review checklist
Escondido's Information Guideline for EV charging stations doubles as the checklist that goes in with the plans.
Prepare the plans
A site or floor plan showing every EV and electrical component; electrical load calculations, single-line drawings or service upgrade details; and the maker's installation instructions attached. Format sheets to print no larger than 11 by 17 inches.
Apply through the Escondido Portal
Residential and commercial trade permits must use the portal, and the Building Division only accepts plans electronically.
Review
The guideline says a complete, compliant submittal can usually be reviewed over the counter or within a day or two.
Request the inspection online
Inspections are scheduled through the Escondido Portal; the city no longer takes requests by phone. Someone may need to be there to give access to the panel and charger.
