How to permit a home EV charger in Imperial Beach
Imperial Beach takes permit applications through its Citizen Self-Service portal. The city doesn't publish a separate home EV checklist online, but its circuit card and load summary has to be filled out and at the panel for the rough inspection.
Checked against the office's own website on October 12, 2026.

Step by step in Imperial Beach
Create a CSS account
Applications go through the Citizen Self-Service portal; set up an account first. Kiosks and staff help are available at City Hall.
Apply for the electrical permit
Submit the application in the portal. Imperial Beach has no home EV document list online, so confirm with the Building Division which of the common items to include.
Fill out the circuit card
The city's Circuit Card and Load Summary records the panel, circuits, service and a load calculation, signed by the owner and the contractor. It must be at the service equipment for the rough inspection.
Request the inspection
Call the hotline at 619-628-1360, use the CSS portal, or email ibinspections@imperialbeachca.gov. Inspections run Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., never on Fridays, and staff call that morning with a time window.
What can change the process in Imperial Beach
Self-certification
Licensed California contractors may be able to self-certify certain minor residential permits without a city inspection. Check the city's Self-Certification Program to see whether a charger qualifies.
Let us handle the permit
Our C-10 licensed, in-house team files the permit, books the inspection and meets the inspector, and the permit is part of the fixed price. Read about EV charger installation in Imperial Beach.
